Authors often call their books their babies, and use birthing analogies. And so, like the birth of a baby, they often surprise you by arriving early. That’s what happened to NO SURRENDER SOLDIER. My “due date” was December 18, 2013, for the e-book and January 18, 2014, for the hardback to be released by Merit Press (Adams Media/ F+W Media). I came home from two weeks out of town—NCTE/ALAN in Boston and Thanksgiving in San Antonio—to discover the e-book released Dec. 2.

Then Friday the 13th turned out to be my lucky day—Voila! NO SURRENDER SOLDIER hardback copies arrived on my doorstep. Wonder if the stork brought them? People started e-mailing me and asking, “Does it feel real yet?” Well, no. Not until Dec. 16 when author and bookstore owner Vicki Berger Erwin e-mailed me photos to show that NO SURRENDER SOLDIER had arrived at Main Street Books in St. Charles, Missouri. She had faced it out in very good company!

What a wonderful time of the year to be celebrating the birth of a child, too!
